Chaza Charafeddine is an artist and writer. She studied special education at La Branche|Centre de formation en pédagogie curative et sociothérapie in Switzerland, and Eurhythmy dance at the Eurythmieschule - Hamburg in Germany. After exploring the fields of education and dance for 15 years, she turned to photography and writing. Her photographic works were shown in numerous galleries and artistic venues in Lebanon and abroad. In 2012 Dar Al-Saqi|Beirut has published her first novella Flashback and in 2015 her short-story collection Haqibatun Bilkade Tura. Chaza Charafeddine is represented by Agial Art/Saleh Barakat Gallery.

شذا شرف الدين كاتبة وفنانة، بدأت مسيرتها المهنية في مجالي التربية والرقص قبل أن تنتقل إلى التصوير والكتابة. حائزة على ديبلوم في التربية العلاجية من مركز "لا برانش" في سويسرا، وعلى ديبلوم في رقص الأوريتمي من "مدرسة همبورغ للأوريتمي" في ألمانيا. درّست الرقص في بيروت وسويسرا. صدر لها عن دار الساقي في بيروت: "فلاش باك" (نوڤيلا، ٢٠١٢) و"حقيبة بالكاد تُرى" (مجموعة قصصية، ٢٠١٥). بعد ٢١ سنة قضتها في سويسرا ومن ثم في ألمانيا، عادت شذا شرف الدين في ٢٠٠٧ لتعيش وتعمل في بيروت. تمثلها في بيروت غاليري أجيال/صالح بركات، بيروت.

Chaza Charafeddine (geb. 1964) begann ihre berufliche Laufbahn in Pädagogik und Tanz, bevor sie zur Bildenden Kunst und zum Schreiben fand. Sie hat ein Diplom in Heilpädagogik von La Branche in der Schweiz (1986) sowie eines in Eurythmie von der Eurythmie Schule Hamburg (1991). Sie unterrichtete „Bewegungskunst“ in der Kaslik-Universität Beirut und arbeitete anschließend als Programmkoordinatorin unter anderem am Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin und bei Ashkal Alwan in Beirut.

Sie veröffentlichte eine Vielzahl von literarischen Texten in libanesischen Feuilletons (Nawafidh, Al-Safir, Al-Nahar) sowie in Kunst- und Kulturmagazinen wie dem documenta online magazine (2007), in Kalamon Review und im Rusted Radishes Art Journal. 2012 erschien bei Dar Al-Saqi ihre Novelle „Flashback“, eine Sammlung von Texten über ihre Kindheit und Jugend, die so geschrieben sind, wie sie sie damals geschrieben hätte. Sie sind eine Dokumentation des gesellschaftlichen Wandels, den die Autorin bis zu ihrem 18. Lebensjahr durchlebte. Im selben Verlag erschien 2015 eine Sammlung von Kurzgeschichten unter dem Titel „haqibatun bilkadi tura“ (Ein fast unsichtbarer Koffer), die von ihrem Leben in ihrer zweiten Heimatstadt Berlin handeln.

Ihre erste Kunstausstellung hatte Chaza Charafeddine in Beirut unter dem Titel „Divine Comedy“ im Jahr 2010. Ihr Sujet war Schönheit und Ästhetik unter Gender-Gesichtspunkten heute und in der klassischen islamischen Kunst. Darauf folgten zwei Fotoausstellungen, die ebenfalls Ästhetik zum Thema hatten: die erste die Ästhetik der Gewalt („The Unbearable Lightness Of Witnessing, Studies Of A Self-Portrait“, 2012), die zweite „ausgeliehene Ästhetik“ unter dem Titel „Maidames“, 2018. Heute arbeitet Chaza Charafeddine in Beirut und wird dort von der Galerie Agial Art/Saleh Barakat vertreten.
